Preston FM Wins Full Time Licence. By David Hemingsley (AHA Tenant)

I have been involved with the Preston FM Community Radio Project since it started in 2005, I went along to the Harris Museum to find out more about the project after initially seeing something on the Avencentral website, in actual fact it was a job advert because I was unemployed at that time the advert took my interest so I phoned up Prescap to find out more unfortunately at that time the positions had been filled.

Something however inspired me to find out more about the project so I asked Lisa who was admin for Prescap at that time to pass my details to the Preston FM team and I have been involved since the birth of Preston FM.

The first set of shows I did on Preston FM were called the 80's show, where I played out lots of great 80's tunes and had competitions, the first set of shows were very nerve racking, I still find it nerve racking even now, however I enjoy the adrenalin rush I get from preparing for my shows, I started off just playing tunes from the 80's but then I wanted to do something different so I expanded by playing tunes from the 70's right up to the present day, I have done 3-4 successful interviews on the radio on many different subjects from employment to housing & sight loss.

One of the first people I interviewed was a very high ranking member of this association, although I found it quite nerve racking I think I was more at ease than the person who I interviewed, the person was the one & only Mr Paul Lees (Chief Executive). We discussed issues relating to housing and the issue of Councils transferring ownership of their properties to Housing associations

I have also interviewed other people since that first interview and feel that the experience of interviewing people has helped my confidence grow considerably and I am proud to be a part of Preston FM and have been since the start of the project

If you have listened or are still listening to any of Preston FM, you can email us any comments/suggestions for the station. These will help us to gain a full broadcasting license for the station. Please email> richard@prescap.co.uk
