Adactus Housing Group works in partnership with Northern Counties HA, New Deal for Communities, and the East Manchester Voluntary Consortium to deliver the Home Front project. The project was funded by the Housing Corporation.
The course, run in partnership with Manchester Care and Repair, is designed to give residents the skills they need to make minor improvements to their home, meet their repairs responsibilities and to keep their homes to a high standard of decoration at a minimum of cost. During the course residents learn decorating skills such as painting and wallpapering including effective estimating of costs and quantities, basic joinery such as putting up shelves and curtain rails and basic plumbing.
So far, all residents who have taken part feel they have learnt something new and improved their confidence. Some have also progressed onto further courses or training opportunities.
Following the success of the pilot scheme in Miles Platting, Home Front has since been rolled out across other areas.
